# The flipped classroom

The flipped classroom has been a dream for twenty years. What was missing? Producing the video content at scale. That's exactly what AI unlocks today.

## What is the flipped classroom?

The flipped classroom reverses the usual order: the learner discovers the content **beforehand**, at their own pace (often on video), and the time spent face to face is devoted to practice, questions and putting things into action. You no longer sit and listen to a lesson: you practise together.

## Why it works

Face-to-face time becomes precious because it is devoted to what video cannot do: challenge, practise, correct. The transmissive part is watched beforehand — at each person's own pace, as many times as needed. Value shifts from the content to putting it into action.

- The content watched beforehand, at your own pace
- Face-to-face time dedicated to practice
- No more identical slides for everyone

## The real blocker: producing the content

The concept dates back to the 2000s. If it never really took off, the reason is simple: **producing quality videos at scale was too expensive** in time and skills. No content, no flipped classroom.

## What AI unlocks

AI finally lifts this barrier: industrialising quality learning content, accessible to every trainer. You can produce fast, at volume and well — the condition the flipped classroom was missing.

## Rolling out the flipped classroom with Hoctav

Hoctav lets you create the video capsules to be watched beforehand: from your corpus, the platform produces structured [micro-learning](/en/micro-learning/) modules ([M.E.R.E.](/en/methode/structure-mere/)), with voice-over and visuals. You reserve face-to-face time for practice.
